Frequently Asked Questions

I offer a sliding scale of prices for my services starting from $110 to $130 per session, paid at the time of service. I also offer telehealth sessions for the same sliding scale prices. I currently do not accept insurance, but may in the future, so please ask during our consultation. If you plan to use out-of-network benefits, I can supply you with a monthly receipt of payment for services that you can submit for reimbursement. If you plan to do this, please call your insurance company to verify out of network benefit options and needed paperwork. I am also happy to provide more information on this during our consultation or first session.

The beginning sessions focus on the intake assessment, gathering relevant medical and mental health information that brings you to therapy, getting to know one another, and creating a personalized treatment plan. Please know that I understand it takes bravery and strength to ask for assistance, that I feel honored to work with you, and that building a relationship takes some time. As we move forward, the focus becomes deeper and turns inward, developing skills, and working through the struggles you came to focus on.

Completion of services looks different for each person. It is linked to the goals of a client, willingness to work both in and out of session, and understanding that one may face difficult feelings when first discussing tough situations or emotions. As everyone is unique, some may experience strong feelings at first, which can be common. If this occurs, and it may not, please do not hesitate to speak with me so that I can work to make sessions more comfortable. This in no way implies that therapy is a negative experience, and in fact, can be very freeing. Often times, we feel the negative impacts before the positive. The intent of therapy is to end services when you feel you have improved coping skills, more positive feelings and emotions, improved relationships, and a more empowered sense of self and your personal abilities.

Most commonly, sessions are held once per week. This allows a client to practice skills more frequently, discuss any questions, concerns, or situations that arose during the previous week, build on prior sessions, and feel more supported. This is discussed during the consultation and/or first session, as at times, bi-weekly is more appropriate or cost effective. As much as therapists and clients alike would love “a magic fix” to their problems, this is rarely, if not at all possible, and the length of therapy will depend on the unique struggles and goals of each client. My goal is to work with each client at their own pace to provide the best outcomes.

I have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Please call or email in advance of 24 hours and leave a voicemail at (720) 551-8477 (this is a google voice number) or rvanharken@bluesprucetherapy.com to alert me, and the voicemail/email will count as the time of cancellation. Please confirm with me that I received this communication. Certain emergencies/illnesses may be considered, one time only, at therapist discretion for a missed appointment. If an appointment needs to be canceled or rescheduled, I require at least 24 hours notice in advance of the scheduled session. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours in advance and/or fail to show, you will be charged the full fee ($130) for that appointment. Missed appointment fees will be charged to the client’s credit card on file. If rescheduling is needed, please follow the 24 hour cancellation policy so that you are not charged.

If a session is missed without proper notification, a client does not show up for the scheduled session, or a client is more than 10 minutes late without notification, the full price of a session ($130.00) will be charged to the client’s credit card on file. More than 10 minutes late will be considered a missed session.

Living in Colorado, weather can become a transportation/safety issue. Please contact me as soon as possible before session if you are unable to make it to the office. If I do not hear from you, it will be considered a missed session. Weather may also effect my availability, but I will make every attempt to be at our scheduled session. If I am unable to make that session, I will let you know and you will not be charged.

I offer a free phone consultation to answer questions, provide information, and help determine if we are a good therapeutic match. If the issue is an emergency, please call 911 or the Colorado Crisis Hotline at 1-844-493-8255.

I am available by appointment Wednesday and Friday from 10:00am-5:00pm and on Saturday from 9:00am-3:00pm (major holidays excluded). There may also be times where I am unable to make a session due to illness, vacation, or emergency. If this is the case, I will let you know immediately and you will not be charged and the session will be rescheduled. I also offer telehealth sessions (secure video chat) if that is a better option. I am relatively flexible, so please let me know your availability when we chat!

I do not offer medication management and I do not prescribe any medications. I can refer to a psychiatrist, or help a client seek out a medical professional who works with medication.
